Greek society cannot and must not become a society of unemployed people because unemployment signals not only want but also social exclusion and psychological vulnerability.

The modernisation of public administration means that the citizen’s relationship with the state will be placed on a new grounding.

We are confident that Greek government reforms will lead to further investment in these important, innovative sectors.   

One has the tools to correct chronic dysfunctions and for society to make the leap from the 20th century and 1980’s technology to today.

The country is being tested as is Greek society with major crises such as the concomitant public health and economic crises.

The government's policies will determine whether there will be a dynamic economic restart or whether the country will enter a protracted and disastrous quagmire.

The scientific committee in tandem with the PM has approved a timetable for the gradual lifting of shop shutdown and of restrictive measures in restaurants, bars, and other establishments.

Some of the emergency measures that the pandemic brought about could become permanent if that serves the social whole and helps society function better.

Can the foundations of a new economic paradigm for the EU be laid without a new agreement, without a sort of New Deal?

Despite the fact that Greece’s market is not linked to that of the US one sees that reduced demand has resulted in a price drop here as well.

One must not forget that in the management of the economic crisis of the previous decade much time was lost before ECB chief Mario Draghi’s decision to guarantee the viability of the common currency.

In such difficult times the government, state institutions, and society must transcend themselves, and that is a one-way street as there is no other way.

'We need a clear expression of European solidarity in the corona pandemic. Germany is willing. It is now Europe’s common task to buttress the existing programmes, fill the gaps and to span a safety net for all EU states that need further support. '

Germany, has begun to shed its fears from the past and that it is no longer bedeviled by the spectre of inflation and by the memory of the Weimar Republic – that it understands the concerns and challenges with which the contemporary world is confronted.

It would be a singular feat of self-deception if one were to believe that we can get through this crisis unscathed, yet each of us can strive to minimise the cost to the extent possible.

Greece’s 10-year economic depression has deprived the country of the requisite means to grapple with the current public health crisis with a full arsenal of weapons.

Solidarity should be expressed in the small and big things in daily life by the stronger to the weaker, by the haves to the have-nots, and of course by the youth to the elderly.

Clearly, the government has no choice but to support suffering citizens, but eventually that will be well nigh impossible without the support and solidarity of Greece’s EU partners.

This is a battle on two fronts. The first is the push to ensure strict adherence to public health guidelines and the other is the effort to support those who have economically been hit hard by those measures.
